How to complain to ScottishPower
Contact ScottishPower and tell them exactly what you want them to do to fix the problem. ScottishPower's complaints procedure is set out in ScottishPower: How to make a complaint. Keep dates, reference numbers and copies of emails or letters, plus photos of meter readings.
Ofgem says suppliers must try to fix problems you report within eight weeks.
ScottishPower price rises
Energy works differently from phone and broadband: there's no fixed yearly contract rise. If you're on a standard variable tariff, your unit rates and standing charges can change, but they're limited by Ofgem's energy price cap. If you're on a fixed tariff, the rates are fixed until the end date. For your own rates, check your contract or latest bill and compare them with the current cap.
Leaving or switching from ScottishPower
- Ofgem says you can switch without paying exit fees in the last 49 days of a fixed deal. Outside that window, check your tariff for exit fees.
- You normally switch by signing up with the new supplier, who arranges the switch. Give both suppliers a meter reading on the day.
- Before a fixed deal ends, ScottishPower must send you an end-of-fixed-term notice explaining what you'll move to and your options.
If ScottishPower doesn't sort it out
You can take your complaint to the free Energy Ombudsman if it isn't fixed within eight weeks, you get a deadlock letter, or you're not happy with the response. You must go to the Ombudsman within 12 months of a deadlock letter.
